Once when I was talking to an European friend of mine, he started speaking of his different impressions of Beijing, Shanghai and New York. He said,“Beijing and Shanghai look as if they are constantly changing, but there seems to be no change. New York is quite the opposite;it looks as if there were no changes, but it really is changing.” I understand that Kind of statement, because it’s an issue I’ve recently been paying close attention to. It’s also the reason why I am particularly interested in “virtual reality”.
“Gravity-Shanghai night sky” is exactly a concentrated appearance of that kind of “virtual reality”. These mirage-like big city building images all come from the city of my birth, in which that we call “open to the outside world”, awindow to attract foreign funds, the significance of these super-high buildings has not only been greatly consolidated; furthermore it has almost become our attempt, against the so-called “globalization”, to surpass all international imagination znd hope.
Some things are indistinct, other things are enlarged, the illusion begins here…
