Catalogue of Li Shan's exhibition at Shanghart Gallery in 2006. Li Shan is known in the early 90s for his bold paintings of political figures with large lotus flowers. In 1998, he started working on a series of hybrid creatures. The present catalogue features his most recent series entitled 'Reading', which includes digital images of insects and plants with human body parts. Through his uncanny realistic representation of interspecies, Li Shan questions the hypocrisy and lack of equality of human values in today’s bio-scientific experiments.
