Singapore, July 2018 – ShanghART Singapore is pleased to have Beijing-based artist, Sun Xun, in the gallery for a three-day programme, “Work in Progress”, on 21 July 2018 from 1pm to 7pm, as well as on 26 – 27 July (timings vary).
Coming from his first solo exhibition in Australia at the Museum of Contemporary Art, where he created a new 10-metre painting during the opening week in front of a live audience, Sun Xun will be stopping by ShanghART Singapore to offer visitors a chance to witness him in action. About the Artist
SUN XUN (b.1980) was born in Fuxin, Liaoning Province. He currently lives and works in Beijing. He graduated from the China Academy of Fine Arts in 2005 and founded π Animation Studio in the following year. Sun Xun works across various mediums such as drawing, painting, animation, and installation, often obscuring the lines of these forms of expressions. He is best known for his stop-motion animated films which echoes his own experiences of the ever-changing dynamics in global history, culture, memory, and politics presented in multidimensional imagery.
In 2016, Sun Xun received the Audemars Piguet Art Commission for Art Basel Miami, a generously financed commission which saw him presenting Reconstruction of the Universe, an exhibition which featured an elaborate architectural set of low curving walls hung with woodcuts, and beyond that, his latest 3D animation film Time Spy. As one of the most exciting emerging artists, he was the recipient of several art awards, including Asia Arts Game Changer Awards, Delhi, India (2018); Young Artist Award in The 8th AAC Art China Awards for the Most Influential (2014); Best Young Artist, Chinese Contemporary Art Awards (2010); and the Young Art Award, Taiwan Contemporary Art Link (2010).
