Shanghai-based artist Huang Kui works mainly in the field of performance, painting and photography and video. He is well known not only as versatile artist, but also as a curator.
HUANG Kui “fabricates” his works and put them into a status of cunning and obscure by mysterious ways. Due to fate of the word “secret” that we believed in, the audiences would try to find the clues out always, however, he has fallen into the delicate trap unconsciously and become one part of the work in front of him as well. The whole progress is short and interesting, although every kind of exploration would get one nowhere finally. That’s what the artist really wants--getting into dead end and lost would be sensorial similarity to some incidents about history and politics.
The appearance of protest points to the invisible and hidden stories, Huang Kui is such a tale teller who expresses his attention extremely. The individual expression comes out from the group phenomenon, and by this compulsory way, Huang might awake extensive awareness of human, however, he leaves without anything to do ultimately. Some details should left: some are willing to be discovered, and some are not.
