about Part 2 Video

 The Exhibition
Contemporary art in China reflects the country's rising influence as an economic, political and cultural force in the global arena. Chinese artists, especially those working in video and photography, are gaining international recognition for their powerful artworks that comment on the consequences of a rapidly changing society. Zooming into Focus: Contemporary Chinese Video from the Haudenschild Collection will provide a new lens through which to better understand China's transformative development, as expressed through the dynamic work of a younger generation of experimental artists.

The first exhibition of its kind on the West Coast and one of the first in the United States, Zooming into Focus: Contemporary Chinese Video from the Haudenschild Collection will investigate the effects of accelerated change in China through the work of three of the country's most talented emerging artists. The videotapes and video installations of Chen Shaoxiong, Yang Fudong and Yang Zhenzhong resonate with the tempo and intensity of China's swiftly evolving urban scene. Their works will come to the Gallery through a generous loan from the Haudenschild Collection. Noted art collectors and alumni Eloisa and Chris Haudenschild have created one of the most important collections of contemporary Chinese art in the world. Focusing on the work of artists from the lively cosmopolitan centers of southern China, the collection-and the exhibition-will make groundbreaking contributions to the field of international contemporary art.

The Exhibition
Contemporary art in China reflects that country's rising influence as an
economic, political and cultural force in the global arena. Chinese
artists, especially those working in photography and video, are gaining
international recognition for their powerful artworks that address a
rapidly changing society that is influenced by Western ideals and art
practice, yet remains distinctly Chinese in its content and aesthetic.
Zooming into Focus: Contemporary Chinese Photography from the Haudenschild
Collection will present the work of many of the most noteworthy Chinese
artists working today. The exhibition will be the first of its kind on the
West Coast, and will highlight the remarkable photography currently being
created in China-a country that is undergoing tremendous development and
growth. This swift transformation of Chinese culture is reflected in the
work of each of the represented artists, who comment on contemporary
Chinese urban life with intelligence, wit, foreboding and nostalgia.

Zooming into Focus: Contemporary Chinese Photography and Video Art
investigates the effects of accelerated change in China through the work of
some of the country's most talented emerging artists. The photographs of
Cao Fei, Chen Shaoxiong, Feng Mengbo, Hong Hao, Shi Yong, Weng Fen, Xiang
Liqing, Xu Zhen, Yang Fudong, Yang Yong, Yang Zhenzhong, Zhao Bandi and
Zheng Guogu will come to the Gallery through a generous loan from the

contemporary Chinese art in the world. Focusing on the work of experimental
