'I Don't Want to Play Cards With Cezanne' and Other Works: Selections from the Chinese 'New Wave' and 'Avant-Garde' Art of the Eighties
Leo Oufan LEE/Richard E. STRASSBERG/Qingnian TANG
Pacific Asia Museum, Pasedena, California
This is the second major exhibition of contemporary Chinese paintings in the 80s, organised by the Asia Pacific Museum in Pasedena, California. Drawing examples from 'New Wave' and 'Avant-Garde' paintings since 1985, and covering a wider geographical area which includes Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming, Wuhan and Changsha, the organizer intends to present a realistic view of how far contemporary Chinese painting had gone since the euphoria of the early Eighties and the Tiananmen protest of 1989.
