Introduction:
This is part of a series of collections of writings on the development of contemporary experimental/avant-garde art in China, edited by Jiang Yuanlun. This issue focuses on the concept of the body, performance and perfomitivity in contemporary art. Also featured in the publication are articles about the exhibition entitled Cruel / Loving Bodies, the 2004 Shanghai Biennale and China's participation in the 26th Sao Paulo Biennale.
