ShanghART Beijing is honoured to present "We Are Perfect Again," a solo exhibition by Zhu Jia, opening on November 14, 2024. As a continuation of his 2008 debut exhibition in Shanghai, "We Are Perfect," this show will feature a series of the artist’s latest video installations.
“I attempt to create a sense of unreality rooted in reality—using theatrical, dramatized, and stylized forms of propaganda to offer a conceptual, archetypal interpretation of certain fixed ideas…”
Since the late 1980s, Zhu Jia has been a pioneer in video and photographic art in China. From his early video classics to recent multi-screen video installations, Zhu deliberately employs a neutral and minimalist narrative style. Through his subjective shaping of stage scenes and characters, he places his observations and reflections on historical time and social reality into a blurred, liminal state, thereby probing and stimulating subtle psychological changes in individuals.
On the second day of the exhibition, November 15, at 3:30 pm, artist Zhu Jia will engage in a conversation with Ryan Inouye, a curator from the Carnegie Museum of Art in the United States. The discussion, taking place at the exhibition venue in ShanghART Beijing, will focus on the key concepts, themes, and techniques that have been central to Zhu Jia’s practice since the 1990s, and will also delve into his new work for this solo exhibition, "We Are Perfect Again."
