Following the launch of its first special art project “Weekend” on March 8, ShanghART Beijing will present its second project, a documentation exhibition titled “Strolls through Yanshan Mountains”, curated by Wang Che, opening on May 20, 2025.
“Strolls through Yanshan Mountains” is a collective walking project in its purest form. Initiated by curator Wang Che, the project involved spontaneous invitations to individuals from the art world to walk and camp together in the forests, gorges, peaks, riversides, and meadows of the Yanshan mountain range. From May 2018 to December 2023, a total of 41 walking events were organized, with 93 active participants from across the art industry, including artists, curators, writers, media professionals, institutions, and auction houses. More than half of the participants joined the project on multiple occasions.
Why Yanshan?
Part of the Yanshan Mountains is located in northern Beijing. The diverse topography and its proximity to the city made the realization of this project both unique and feasible.
Why walking?
Walking is an act of stepping away from the predetermined—a gesture of relaxation, unruliness, slowness, and contemplation.
