Guangdong Contemporary Art Center presented the group exhibition "Weltanschauung" from August 5th to September 28th, 2023. This exhibition is curated by Wang Jiang.
The exhibition theme "Weltanschauung" activates a concept from over a century ago in the study of German art history. Based on its original intention of "perception of the world," this exhibition brings together outstanding works of 14 active creators in the field of Chinese contemporary painting. ”Weltanschauung" not only focuses on these individual cases but also places emphasis on the current painting context. “Weltanschauung” does not insist on highlighting the differences in perception between individuals but rather rigorously analyzes and extracts their shared characteristics - “Weltanschauung” triggers empathy（”einfühlung"） it happens before any expression, and all rhetorical structures in the artwork stem derived from a certain artistic will（ “kunstwollen"）. However, "Weltanschauung" does not intend to use any dominant will（“wollen”） to obscure the unique approaches to perceiving the world in each painting. The intertextuality between images opens channels for dialogue, questioning the psychological aspects of reality. At the same time, the diverse visual samples retell the history of images and concepts, constantly subverting the logical positions of the mind, eye, and hand.
