Triumph Gallery is pleased to present “The Heart Leads the Way——Contemporary Art Exhibition” on December 22nd, 2018 at Triumph Gallery. This exhibition presents works by thirteen artists, including He Jie, Ji Dachun,Jiang Miao, Li Songsong, Ma Ke, Tu Xi, Xu Hong, Xu Hongming, Xu Hongxiang, YanBo, Yang Liming, Yin Zhaoyang, Zhang Jian (alphabetical order). Artists born in the 1970s and 1980s belong to a very special generationin the history of Chinese contemporary art. Unique to their previous generations born in the 1950s and 60s, collectivism, social consciousness, distinctive historical features and symbolic labels have faded away and there emerge and grow in them a new pursuit for multicultural and personalized visual languages, introspective expressions, the collision and integration of Eastern and Western contemporary cultures, and commercial and market awareness, so that their artistic exploration and practice form a cross-section in the history of art, which play an important role of connecting the past and the future, though theyare the same with neither. It can be said that the dozen or so artists selected in this exhibition are outstanding representatives of this art generation. They all focus on easel paintings and have undergone the roller coaster-like transformation of the market. They all devote themselves to change and upgrade after their individual language style has been established and recognized, starting all over again with such bravery and tenacity. I admire them for it. Admittedly, the process must havebeen charged with setbacks, challenges, confusion, and even failure, but also present are joys and hopes for discovering new directions and success. It is with the constant thinking and accumulation that they elevate themselves to maturity and stableness, revealing the formation of new styles and becoming more refined on the path of artistic pursuits. Their efforts and exploration allow us to witness the grasp of contemporary context, the manifestation of individual life forces, the relentless quest for artistic ideals and language styles, references totraditional culture and recognition of cultural identity in the context of multicultural conflicts and changes of times. Perhaps their works are not comprehensive enough or perfect, nor can they represent the status quo of Chinese contemporary art, but they offer good cases for study and they react appropriately to such changes.
