ISA Art Gallery is pleased to present ‘Paper Menagerie #3: On Equal Grounds’, a group exhibition bringing together the practices of 63 artists, collectives, performers, and art researchers.
Opening on Saturday, 19 September 2026, this exhibition spans three generations of Indonesian artists, placing diverse practices and perspectives into dialogue. Drawing from Hannah Arendt’s proposition that “the world lies between people,” the exhibition considers paper not simply as a material or surface, but as a space where different perspectives and forms of knowledge can coexist without hierarchy.
Across drawings, paintings, collages, archives, maps, and three-dimensional works, paper becomes a site of memory, exchange, and encounter. Its capacity to preserve and circulate ideas across time and generations allows diverse practices to enter into dialogue, while its accessibility and reproducibility position it as a material capable of carrying voices, histories, and forms of resistance.
Rather than erasing distinctions between artistic practices, Paper Menagerie #3: On Equal Grounds questions the hierarchies through which they are understood, allowing different disciplines to coexist without being placed in a fixed order of value. Paper then becomes a shared territory where different disciplines, generations, and ways of thinking can meet, allowing new relationships and possibilities to emerge.
