Social discipline in daily life often becomes difficult to detect when it appears under the guise of “guidance,” “advice,” or “expectation.” In the “Treatment” series, objects that embody such disciplinary power are collected as an archive of this hidden violence. By juxtaposing instruments of discipline with weapons that imply potential harm and medical tools that evoke fear, the work suggests a coexisting—or at times misaligned—relationship between discipline as covert violence, weapons as overt violence, and pain as a necessary part of healing.
Medicine instruction faintly visible beneath the skin echo the objects displayed above, forming an imagined system of “symptomatic treatment.” Yet once these so-called “treatments” are absurdly stitched into the body, they reveal themselves as irrational forms of harm. The sutured wounds suggest that these elements are not innate, but rather external interventions implanted over time.
