In the preface, Per Hovdenakk describes Xue Song's method of producing his paintings. The artist would tear up and set fire to materials such as photographs, books and paintings, and then paste the ashes and unburned parts on the canvas. The monograph includes colour plates and preface by Per Hovdenakk.
