The famous "zombie-ant fungus."
When infected,
ants climb to a certain height on a tree before dying,
biting into the vein on the underside of a fresh leaf.
There are many variations of parasitic fungi and their ant hosts.
This particular Ophiocordyceps unilateralis produces pink spore sacs.
Perhaps by coincidence,
the eyes of its host turn from black to a pale pink.
If we must call them zombies,
I would name this group the pink-eyed undead.
