In this work, This work consists of an array of artist-specified shells scattered across the floor (dimensions variable) and a single mounted shell embedded with a mirror. These shells are characteristically thin and delicately brittle. The interactive component invites participants to physically crush the shells underfoot—an act of deliberate fragmentation that shifts perceptual primacy from the visual to the equally vital realms of auditory and tactile experience.
Here, the shell operates as a dual metaphor: both a psychic and physical carapace, emblematic of the defensive architectures constructed by humans, societies, systems, and power structures—all manifestations of fragility disguised as fortification. The very existence of a "shell" presupposes vulnerability within. By crushing these calcified shelters, participants confront the paradox of protection: its ephemeral strength, their own agency in dismantling it, and the haunting resonance of its collapse. The journey culminates in an encounter with the mirrored shell at the installation’s terminus, where viewers meet their own reflection—an invitation to contemplate what lies beneath the surfaces we construct.
