Teeth, misaligned and functionally disordered, are restrained by retainers—an external force imposed through steel wires, compelling them to continue growing in a state of dysfunctional deformity. Presented on surgical trays, they resemble pathological growths severed from the body, both alien and excessive.
In a regulated society, the inescapable discourse of discipline is often enacted under the guise of guidance and consolation. It incites individuals to participate voluntarily in self-discipline, leading to a blurred state in which the roles of dominator and subordinate become indistinguishable. Ultimately—and unsurprisingly—the individual becomes a reproducer of the very discourse that once subjected them.
