Layers of cast-concrete panels constitute a low-lying ground plane, while bent metal objects and scaffolding couplers scattered across its surface transform it into an archaeological excavation site, inviting viewers to stoop and search. The images embedded within the bent metal objects derive from the artist’s field research in derelict factories and labor settlements. Everyday objects left behind—leather shoes, toothpaste tubes, playing cards, and cigarette packs—were photographed and subsequently translated into silverpoint drawings through processes of tracing and erasure. The scaffolding couplers were collected from the sidewalk sheds in New York that became perpetual due to regulatory oversights.
